I'd Rather Pray and Sing

Recorded by Mordechai Ben David

Album: I'd Rather Pray and Sing

I sit in darkness
remembering the light
of the Bais Hamikdosh standing
my Father’s delight
I am a son yearning
a child who is returning
to my Father’s embrace
to the Shechinah Hakedosha’s face

I don’t want a thing
I’d rather pray and sing
I’d rather tell the story
of Your holiness and glory
I don’t need a thing
I’d rather pray and sing
I’d rather tell the story
of Your holiness and glory.

You turned Your face away
here just left me in despair
Your commandments I didn’t obey
I know it’s not unfair
but Father please turn back
now I know Your Torah is right
please give me the strength that I lack
in the Yetzer Harah’s fight.

You sent me to repent
to purify my soul
well now my head is bent
my heart’s a burning coal
I’ve been wandering two thousand years
I was driven away from my home
I shed a few million tears
while in pain You watched me roam.

I know the time is now
I can feel it in my bones
Father please show me how
a sinful soul atones
now I’ll just sing until the Schechina stops crying
until we all stop sighing
and soon we’ll all be home
in Yerushalyim Habenuyah
